Obituary for Dale Anthony Ledet

Dale Anthony Ledet
Dale Anthony Ledet, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and proud Cajun died Sunday, September 3, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. He was born October 16, 1939 in Beaumont, Texas to Abel Leonard and Annie Romere Ledet. Dale attended all 12 grades of school at St. Anthony’s School in Beaumont, Texas graduating in 1957 and was on the St. Anthony’s State Championship Football Team in 1956. He then attended one semester at Texas A&M where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He then proudly served in the U. S. Army in the Army Security Agency in England and France. Upon his discharge from the Army in 1961, he enrolled in Lamar University and graduated with a business degree. Most of his working career was spent in the scrap metal industry. His life motto was “anything worth doing is worth doing to excess”. He was a proud member of Honor Fraternity at Lamar University, the Memorial Cricket Club, the Houston Dart League, Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Lifetime Committeeman of the Sheep and Goat Committee. He loved working crossword puzzles, a good cigar and his beautiful home and friends on the Bolivar Peninsula. Dale was the best dancer EVER and loved music of all kinds (except Motown). Dale was quick with a joke and loved to tell a good story. He also loved visiting with his St. Anthony classmates at their monthly lunch get together. He watched a lot of TV – but only if it involved a ball, a referee and a score … or John Wayne. One of his biggest joys was watching his nephews play football … from Rick and Tommy to James and Eric and Adam. But more than anything, he loved his family. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Dianne Diffey Ledet, his children Lauren (Jason) Hughes of Conroe, Michael Ledet of Houston and Matthew Dale Ledet of Crystal Beach, Texas. He is also survived by the absolute loves of his life – his beautiful granddaughters Jessica Hughes of Wellington, Florida and Taylor Ann Ledet and Victoria Lee (LuLu) Hughes of Conroe. Also surviving Dale are his brother-in-law Jerry Colichia and brother-in-law Darryl (Laurie) Rickaway, loving nieces and nephews: Judi(Ronnie) Benoit, Rick (Cathy) Johnston, Thomas Dale Johnston, David (Poppy) Johnston, Keith(Robin) Johnston, Jill (Matt) Alborn, Scott Colichia, Stephanie Colichia (Tom) Manskey, Phyllis Lopez, Ellice Carney, Laura Rickaway, James Rickaway, Britt (Jen) Sudduth, Drew (Julie) Sudduth, Cade (Amanda) Sudduth and Justin Hybarger, 32 great nieces and nephews and 28 great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother L J (Bonnie) Ledet, sisters Jessie Mae (Archie) Johnston and Maxine Colichia as well as nephews Bob Johnston, Johnny Lopez, and Greg, Len, Paul and Mason Ledet.

The Astros have gained another angel in the outfield.
