Donald Kurt Abbrat, Sr. entered into the arms of his loving Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday morning, October 14, 2018 right after celebrating his 77th birthday with all his family surrounding him. Don was born in Houston, Texas to Richard Kurt Abbrat and Jewel Marie Meacham Abbrat on October 13, 1941.
Don loved his Country and served in the United States Army and the Texas National Guard as a helicopter mechanic. He had a career at Baker Hughes that spanned over two decades and following his time there, he continued in the oil industry for many years. Don had a great appreciation for the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing. In his retirement years he put his enthusiasm and expertise of guns to good use as an expert firearm specialist at Collector’s Firearms.
Above all else, Don loved his Lord Jesus and his family. Don and his wife, Marianne attended Second Baptist Church for 29 years where he faithfully served as a Deacon and loved serving as an Usher welcoming visitors to the Worship Service. He was an active member of the Straight Paths Sunday School Class where he served as a Greeter. Don and Marianne also served together on the Greeting Team for the New Member Reception for a number of years. He truly loved life and serving at Second Baptist Church. Don always said that he loved the opportunity to make visitors and newcomers feel welcome, that he always wanted people to leave knowing those same warm feelings that he had the first time he walked through the doors.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Kurt Abbrat and Jewel Marie Meacham Abbrat. Also, his beloved bride of 40 years, Marianne Caron Abbrat who went home to Heaven on April 15, 2017. It is the family’s preference that all loving donations being made in memory of our father go to the Mighty Oaks Warrior Programs ( www.mightyoaksprograms.org ) for the needs of our heroic military veterans.
Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
