Obituary for Don McDaniel

Don McDaniel
Don Albert McDaniel, 89, of Austin, TX, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Don was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on June 18th, 1927 to Rufus and Lillian Lee McDaniel. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rosemary Owens McDaniel, daughter, Linda McDaniel Hulsey and husband Paul Hulsey, granddaughter Clarissa Hulsey Bailey and husband Ed Bailey of Austin, Texas; grandson Jeremy Hulsey and wife Rachel Hulsey of Waunakee, Wisconsin, and great-grandchildren, Rose, Atlas, Camille, Benjamin, and Davis. Don was preceded in death by his sister Hazel McDaniel Inman, and brothers Charles “Buddy” McDaniel and William “Billy” McDaniel. He has one surviving brother, Jerry McDaniel and wife, Christina of Georgetown, Texas, and multiple nieces and nephews. Don served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947. Don and Rosemary cared for his brothers and sister by taking them out of an orphanage and raising them as his own when his Navy service was completed. He was an electrician and retired from the City of Houston after 25 years of service. Don was an entrepreneur who learned by doing, failing at times, but always finding ways to support his family. He worked many jobs at once and enjoyed the challenge. He loved the Lord and served as a Sunday School teacher and as a deacon at several Baptist churches during his lifetime. Don loved to watch his granddaughter play sports and his grandson play in the marching band. He also loved to play golf and dominos, hearts and sit with family and friends and tell great stories. Our family would like to thank his hospice nurses Tauna and Melissa and the many home health aides, including Barbara and Christina, that so lovingly attended my dad. A graveside service for Don will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Woodlawn Garden of Memories, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston TX 77055.
