Samuel (Sam) Jackson Homes passed away on March 6, 2017. Sam is survived by Blondelle Ward Homes, his beloved wife of 69 years. They met and fell in love in their teens (nineteen and sixteen respectively) and that devotion still exists, only stronger, a testament to their long marriage.
Sam was born March 11, 1927 in St. Louis, MO. and became a lifelong Houstonian shorty thereafter. He grew up in the Mid-town area and attended Lamar High School. He joined the U. S. Navy in 1945 and served his country for two years, stationed in San Diego, CA. His only sibling, William (Billy) Frances Homes also served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army. Billy died in action in northern Italy in 1944.
After the war, Sam attended the University of Houston and in 1952 went to work for CRC Pipeline Equipment Company. He continued to work for them until mid-1980. During his tenure, he earned several patents on pipeline equipment, which are still in use today.
In addition to Blondelle, Sam is survived by his four children: Vicki, Dayna, Janet and Bill, 7 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
The Woodlawn Funeral Home will be the location of Sam’s final resting place. This ultimately will be the location for Blondelle as well, where they will be together for eternity.
The family will meet for a private memorial on Saturday, March 11, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sam's honor to the American Cancer Society,. 2500 Fondren Rd., Ste. 100, Houston, Texas 77063.
