Helen Ruth Dyer, 98, passed away Sunday, October 9, in Houston. Services for Mrs. Dyer include a visitation from ten o’clock until eleven o’clock Wednesday morning, October 12, 2016 and the funeral service beginning at eleven o’clock; all at the Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Drive, Houston, TX 77024.
Helen was born December 27, 1917 in Texarkana, Arkansas to parents, Frederick and Canzadia Halsey. She loved the Lord and was a charter member of the Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston, founded in 1962. Although Helen was active at the church beginning in 1959. At one time, Helen was the church organist for many years and later sang in the choir. She also taught English at Tallowood to many Japanese ladies.
Helen graduated with degrees in music and education from The University of Mary Hardin Baylor, and was known as a devoted Christian who loved her family first and foremost-after the Lord. She spent a great deal of time with her great granddaughters knitting and they loved to say they were “knitting with Nonnie.”
Mrs. Dyer is preceded in death by her husband of 66-years, Gene Dyer, and has left behind her loving memories to two daughters, Ann Lattimore and her husband, Robin and Barbara Browning and her husband, Tom; grandchildren, Tom Browning and wife Adrianne, Andrew Browning and wife, Julie, Bill Lattimore and wife Rhanda, and Amy Catlett and husband, Bart; twelve great grandchildren and one great- great grandson; plus a host of nieces, nephews and loving friends and extended family members.
Helen Ruth Halsey Dyer will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
