Surrounded by her adoring family, Judy slipped peacefully back into the arms of God on August 26, 2016. She was a light to all that knew her, and will be missed tremendously. Preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Irving McConnell and Elizabeth Ayres McConnell, her precious son, Patrick "Pat" Wylie Abbott, and beloved husband of 47 years, Frank Mulkey Abbott Jr. Judy is survived by her son, John Frederick Abbott and his partner Jennifer Johnson, daughter Julie Abbott Mules and her partner Gary Wilson, and her loving grandchildren Austin Patrick Abbott, Jack Alan Abbott, Emily Diane Mules, Caroline Langworthy Mules, Griffin Patrick Mules and Beckett Hunter Wilson. She also leaves behind, her brother Philip McConnell and his wife Pat, their daughters Liz Lewis and Susan Jones and their families, as well as a long list of cousins and extended family Judy attended the University of Texas, at Austin, and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She received her bachelors degree in special education, and taught school in Houston for 30 years. Later, she earned her masters degree from Prairie View A&M, graduating with honors. She spent many years as an educational diagnostician in the Cy-Fair school district. She was an advocate for learning disabled and at risk students, and was a highly loved and respected mentor and friend to many students, their families, and fellow teachers. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Harbor Hospice of Houston for their exceptional work. Specifically, they would like to recognize Debra Rodriguez RN, FNP-C for her compassionate care and extraordinary wisdom, Lloyd Heckman RN, for his gentle bedside manner, and concern for comfort every step of the way, and finally, Kimberly Hurtada RN, for her genuine love and heartfelt desire to be with the family until the very final moments. Although Judy was in hospice for mere days, these people have left an indelible mark on the family, and will always be thought of as extended family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Brookwood Community, 1752 FM 1489 Brookshire, Texas or charity of your choice.
