Lougene was summoned home on September 19, 2018 in Houston, Texas. Lougene was born May 25, 1932 in Arab, Alabama to Oran and Jimmie Cox (both deceased). She moved to Houston in the early 1970’s where she met the love of her life, her late husband Bobby Gene Fears, Sr. She and Bobby were a match made in heaven, and enjoyed many happy years together, which they spent traveling, listening and dancing to country and western and bluegrass music, and hosting many family barbeques.
Lougene was a talented artist who loved to paint with oils. She also loved to cook and made the best cornbread, biscuits, banana pudding and pecan pie in Texas (as well as many other delicious foods). Lougene loved to quilt and she especially loved crossword puzzles. Lougene was a civil servant in Huntsville, Alabama in her twenties and later retired as a civil servant from HUD in Houston, Texas. Lougene had a wonderful sense of humor and unending generosity. She was a very strong and independent woman and was an inspiration to many.
Lougene was preceded in death by her bothers James Cox, O.D. Cox, Robert Cox and Glenn Cox. She is survived by her brother Max Cox and wife Peggy and sister in law Mildred Cox. She leaves behind her children; Debra Clayburg and husband Kenneth, Rebecca Reynolds, James Richard Reynolds and wife Carol, step-children Gaylen Henson, Cindy Gordon, Katy Henline, and Bobby Fears Jr. and his wife Sandy Fears. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was especially close to her grandchildren David Christian and wife Sandra, and Lindsey Clayburg and great grandchild Eden Grace Castillo. She will be missed by all whose lives she has touched.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Houston at 1:00 pm, with a private burial. Although there is no official visitation, we invite friends to come early between 12:30 and 1:00 to visit with the family and friends of Lougene.
