Clara S. Griswold, 94, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her family on Friday, March 16, 2018, in Santa Fe, Texas. Born January 22, 1924 to parents D. and Emma Smith, in Ben Wheeler, Texas, Clara will be fondly remembered as a kind and gentle lady who had love for everyone, especially her grandchildren, all of whom lovingly called her either Grandma or Nanau.
Clara was married to her husband William (Billy) H. Griswold for over 30 years. Clara worked as an office administrator at their family owned and operated used automotive dealership, Griswold Motors, for over 40 years. Clara had been a lifelong resident of the Houston Heights area for over 60 years. Clara enjoyed planting flowers and working in the flower beds, playing dominos, having family events at her home, attending church gatherings, and spending time with family and friends. Clara was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 560 for over 25 years and held the officer position of Historian for 2 years.
Clara is preceded in death by her parents, D. and Emma Smith; husband, William (Billy) H. Griswold; brother, Ewin Smith; sisters, Florene Mosley, Alta Grant, and daughter, Virginia Joy. Clara leaves behind her son, Jimmy Elliott Griswold (Sandra) of Groveton; grandson Scott Lusk (Maria), of Houston; granddaughter, Michelle Chambliss (Todd); great grandchildren Chelsea, Katie, and Haylie of Santa Fe; granddaughter, Bridgett Griffin (Chuck); great grandchildren, Richard, and Ryan of Oklahoma; grandson, Paul Elliott (Stacey); great grandchildren, Reagan, Kylie, and Piper of Oklahoma, and numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.
To honor the life of Clara S. Griswold we are gathering at Houston’s First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Frwy, Houston, TX 77024 in the reception hall following the gravesite services. Light food provided and lots of memories.
