Our dad, Earl William Smith age 76 of Houston, TX, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest William Smith, mother, Lavern Ann Smith Siller, step-Dad Frank Siller, nephew Rusty Nail, and great niece Kayleigh Nail. He is survived by his son Ricky Smith, daughter Vicky Cantu, son-in-law Thomas Cantu, daughter Melissa Wismeg, son-in-law Mark Wismeg, son David Simoneaux, and his three grandchildren Stephanie Cantu, Bryan Wismeg and Ashley Cantu. He is also survived by his brother Edwin Smith, sister and brother-in-law Inez and Bill Nail, and brother and sister-in-law Glenn and Pam Smith, nieces and nephews Cindy Riebling, Shelley Smith Bishop, John Nail and Shawn Smith. He is also survived by long-time companion Kathie Ruffner. While Dad’s last few years were tough, the previous 73 years were great. He grew up in the Heights, went to Reagan High School and was an all-city basketball player. He loved to hunt and fish, have drinks with his friends and loved his family get togethers. He had a big heart, ask any stray dog or person in his neighborhood, and was always there in a time of need. We are so thankful for all he did for us and our family and glad we were able to thank him before he passed. A memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 3:00pm with a reception to follow. The burial will be held at a later date.
