Lavonne Davis Kershner entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the age of 92. Lavonne was born in Talco, Texas on May 26, 1925. She graduated from Talco Senior High School in 1942, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas Woman’s University in 1946.
Lavonne moved to Houston, Texas after college where she first worked for Humble Oil Company (now Exxon Mobil), then married in 1949 and had three sons – John, Barry, and David. To support and provide for her sons, Lavonne rejoined the workforce in 1962. She first worked as a substitute teacher within HISD and then joined Continental Oil Company (Conoco) where she worked as a secretary and later as an executive assistant until she retired in the early 1980’s.
Lavonne loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. She loved her grandsons, Patrick and Matthew, her granddaughters, Allie, Amber, Ashley, and Meagan, and her great grandsons, Caden, Dirk, and Mayson, and great granddaughters, Stephanie, and Bella. She also had many great friends who she loved dearly.
She was always there for anyone who needed advice, help, or support. While her advice could be sharp edged and to the point, it was from her heart and based on her life experiences. She had a great sense of self-deprecating humor and a very sharp wit. She shared many stories about her childhood and adult life, and always gave credit to the Lord for guiding her through turbulent or troubled times.
While Lavonne will be sorely missed, her spirit lives on in our memories and hearts. We can all take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the arms of the Lord.
