Obituary for Nevillyn Newcomer

Nevillyn Dawn Newcomer fell asleep in Christ on November 11, 2017 after enduring years of poor health. Nevillyn was born on March 6, 1931 in San Marcos, Texas, the only child of Carlene and Neville Bobo. In 1937, the family moved to the Houston Heights, where her father started a hardware business. Nevillyn was an excellent student at Reagan High School and developed a love of the Arts. She graduated from the University of Texas with a BA degree in Drama Education, which years later would lead her daughters to refer to her as “the drama queen.”
When Nevillyn met Don Newcomer in 1952, she found a life’s love who also enjoyed the arts. They married on September 19, 1953. Nevillyn and Don were blessed by the births of two daughters, Dawn and Kathy, whom she encouraged in all their interests and loved helping them find happiness whenever possible.
The most important things to Nevillyn were God, her family, and her home. When her beloved Don started his commercial art studio, she had to redirect her arts education to more practical applications – as Don’s “office manager,” she learned and developed all kinds of clerical and accounting skills such as double-entry bookkeeping, invoicing, and how to complete government forms and tax reports of all kinds.
Nevillyn was a good seamstress and an avid gardener, and from a young age sought a true relationship with God. In 1965, after two years of Bible study, she was baptized into the Saving Name of Jesus Christ.
Nevillyn was preceded in death by Don, her beloved husband and brother in Christ. She is survived by her cherished daughters, Dawn Donnelle Newcomer and Katherine Karlene Newcomer, and two dear granddaughters, Lauren Carlene and Caitlyn Dawn Newcomer, and several cousins.
