Bernard Pate “Pat” LaFitte was called home on October 2, 2017. Pat was born on June 13, 1927 in Mansfield, Louisiana. In 1945, at the age of 18, Pat joined the United States Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Pollux. Upon completion of his service to his country, he married his beloved bride of 53 years, Gertrude Lucille Watson. Having been an only child, Pat was blessed to gain 9 brothers and sisters with his marriage to Lucille. He dearly treasured those siblings. Pat attended Louisiana Tech University where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later went on to have a long career as a purchasing agent working for Tennessee Gas and Gulf Interstate Engineering. During their marriage, Pat and Lucille had four children. Pat was also Paw Paw to 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Pat is survived by his daughter Zandra Gayle LaFitte and husband John Canter, daughter Patricia Jarrell Doss and husband Bud Doss, son Darrell Pate LaFitte and wife Susan LaFitte along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many extended family members. Pat was preceded in death by his bride Lucille LaFitte, daughter Olney Michelle “Mickey” Bowles, and son in law Ronnie Bowles. Pat LaFitte was a blessed man who recognized and gave thanks for the many blessings he received during his lifetime. He led an exemplary life and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
